A Win for Oakland!

We are so excited to announce that our Melrose Leadership Academy members have moved OUSD to secure green energy on their campus! Members spent countless hours working to develop a deep understanding of the carbon emitting boiler their school utilized and the environmentally friendly heat pump they were advocating for. They even met with OUSD architects and staff to understand the districts budget, and capacity for a climate saving shift like this.

Heat pumps have become an increasingly popular clean-energy technology because they can both heat and cool using electricity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions…their efforts have become a blueprint for what the district wants to implement at other schools.” Quote from a feature in The Guardian
