What is the issue?
In November of 2024, the Port of Oakland voted to massively expand Oakland International Airport (OAK) in East Oakland, despite violating the California Environmental Quality Act. This will create an additional 16 gates, and in turn, increase the number of jets flying over the area.
These jets emit fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas-induced climate change and toxic pollutants that primarily harm the health of industrial workers and communities in the East Oakland area. The combination of air, noise, and traffic pollution harms the overall wellbeing of this majority Black and Brown community in exhange for profit.

What do we do?
YVA’s Stop OAK campaign consists of youth voices advocating for awareness and an end to the Port of Oakland’s expansion of the OAK airport. We have and continue to fight for this mission through speaking at city council meetings and educating the community on what is taking place.
