We are hiring to expand our Education and Organizing Team, which is the key to our base building work in frontline schools.
Job Title: YVA Education and Community Organizing Coordinator
Location: Bay Area CA
Job Responsibilities:
This is an hourly, flexible position. Some daytime/ school day availability is required. Team members can sign up for tasks including:

Offer presentations and workshops to schools and presentations.

Provide input on strategy and curriculum for school and community organizing

Recruit and welcome targeted youth leaders

Offer direct support to students and teachers interested in starting school based clubs

Meet with and collaborate with community based organizations to build our base and support our mission

Speak with media and community groups on behalf of YVA
-
Outreach to targeted schools and teachers to set up classroom presentations, using YVA’s email lists and social media (supported by Organizational Coordinator)

Track, organize, and follow through on scheduled presentations (supported by Organizational Coordinator)

Support YVA youth leaders in participating in the presentations when they are available offer coaching and mentoring on presentations (supported by Organizational Coordinator)

Support with Fellowship organization, ie: recruitment, intake and interviews, orientation, support for youth cohort leaders, regular communications on email and text

See the job as offering resources to develop and support the leadership of frontline middle and high schoolers

Provide input on systems and policies for recruitment and organizational practices to support frontline youth leadership

Attend lead circle meetings to stay updated on campaigns
Requirements:

Committed to an anti-oppression intersectional analysis of climate justice and youth power
-
Strong follow-through and attention to detail

Strong public speaking and presentation skills

Ability to use email, google docs, spreadsheets and slides, openness to learning additional programs

Team player and honest, reliable communicator

Ability to work a variable schedule, including available hours during the school day

Though the hours are flexible, once a task is committed to, completing that task is a job expectation (ie: if you commit to a presentation or regular support for a school club you are expected to be there). If your hours will be significantly reduced on a given week, please give 1 week notice if possible.
This position is aimed at youth ages 18-25 or other young people who have daytime availability.
Pay rate: $25/hour, with the opportunity for advancement to a salaried position, based on experience. Sick and vacation pay provided.
